Overall I think it was a great report. Sales came in at the high end of what I was hoping for. The loss doesn't concern me much as I don't think they will reach break even until second qtr this year. CHGO had strong sales growth of 18% even though the Pietro locations experienced 5.4% decline. 4th qtr is their slowest qtr, so sales should be increasing sequentially from here unless el nino slowed things down. From all the rain, mud slides and flooding in Southern CA, I thought us Arizonans would have that highly sought after beach front property.

Same store sales growth while declining from previous quarters is still a strong 8.9%. Major retailers would kill for those numbers. Gross profit increased to 70.5% in 1997 compared to 68.9% in 1996. Also, the five stores converted from Pietro to BJ's in 1997 had revenue increases averaging 104%.

The 10K should be available in the next couple of days, providing detail to the financial statements. The conference call should give us a good idea how 1st qtr is going given there is only a couple of days left. I won't be able to listen to conference call live since I have a prior commitment, but will listen to the replay. So take good notes and ask good questions if you're participating :-)
