Chas, this may be an "old" article and someone may have linked it already, but there was a mention of MU possibly skipping a generation in EBN a few weeks ago:
techweb.com
In fact, desperate DRAM makers are speeding up shrinks - even forgoing generations. Micron is hoping to skip quarter-micron processing and move from 0.30-micron to 0.22-micron feature size wafers. The world's largest DRAM producer, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., has moved from quarter-micron capability and is ramping up 0.23-micron processing for 64-Mbit.
To my non-EE ears, it does sound significant, but my first question would be the timing of the move if they're looking @ .18 as opposed to the .22 that the EBN piece mentions. No question, they're good at manufacturing and it's almost impossible to make the arguement that the people down in the fabs working on these types of developments have "dropped the ball" in any way.
My bearishness is still, as always, tied to the big picture stuff. It's unfortunate that here you have a company that's been creamed in the short-term by the actions of some of other the players in its industry.
Good trading,
