Mary turmoil as you put it is not caused by compaq. It is mostly due to the fact that intels margins are down, intels market share is down and intels expenses are up. Compaq did make a bad call by allowing build up of intel based inventory in its shops. Dell is capitalizing on that. Compaqs error in no way affected the market. Even so feared compaq's price cuts ended up to be mild at best.
