Pancho, for the second time in one week a friend has asked me whether he should invest his savings into a mutual fund, or borrow money at the bank at 6.5% and invest it in a mutual fund. In both cases I tried to explain to them that markets can go down and that they can lose part of their capital. They had a lot of trouble believing this.

What is amazing is that here in Canada banks are desperately trying to lend money to their clients in order to sell more of their mutual funds. It is like double-dipping for these banks, they make a loan and they sell a mutual fund.
