Scott,

I agree about Laughlin..however in spite of all the changes going on in Vegas it is still "magical." I'll be heading that way in a couple of weeks and hope not to leave too much money on the table ;-)

Going back to Laughlin, it peaked my curiosity when I read a very interesting article about the man who started it all. I was amazed when I found out he grew up about 1 1/2 hours from my hometown in Minnesota (which, by the way, is starting to become a spread out version of Vegas.) When I went back for Christmas I spent about 4 hours in a small casino in a town named Black River Falls, WI.(about a 45 minute drive.) Although they currently do not offer blackjack.. the right machines have a tendency to pay off quite well. I walked away up around $900...

If you really like the vacation environment go up to Tahoe..it's beautiful and has a feeling of a normal city...very lush.
