The current PC Computing magazine has a comparison review of the PaperPort 3000 and the Storm EasyPhoto ImageWave (could not find an online copy). In general the PaperPort "won." One thing they mentioned that I had also heard is that the Storm product is very noisey. As expected, they gushed about the PaperPort software.

Also, based on my recommendation, a small business office that I had already given my old VX to when I upgraded to the Strobe just got three Strobes and one 3100 flatbed (Avision says the 3100 is slighter quieter than the 3000).
