Ted:

<<I'm serious. Of what value is technical analysis compared to real news. Should one make decisions on technical analysis and ignore the fundamentals and news. Should one always assume that the charts reflect a number of things including investment climate and all developments. Do technical people rely solely on the analysis. How do they do compared to other types of investors ie momentum or fundamentals or value etc.>>

It depends on what you believe. Pure TAs exist, and they trade on technical indicators alone. One of the famous ones is Larry Williams. Larry will run away if you start talking to him about the fundamentals of the futures market. But he's a trader, not an investor. Warren Buffet is an investor, and it is believed that he pays no attention to the price chart when making an investment decision. Both TA traders and investors can be successful.

IMO, most of the TA that is spouted on the Internet is amatuerish, and in many cases I'm being kind saying that.

That being said, I believe that there is a place for both TA and fundamental analysis. I use TA to both time my trades and pick my entry and exit points. I use fundamentals to decide whether I am an investor or a trader of the stock. Gotta go. If you want more opinion, send me a personal message.
