Don, each to his own of course but I'd just as soon RMBS fires the whole PR department and spend the money on engineers. IMO, every time a company tries to whip up the revival tent with the spin doctors it comes back to bite them in the fanny. LSI promised that system-on-a-chip would revolutionize Western Civilization as we know it, then promptly screwed up their new fab plant in Oregon, and announced a few product delays cuz the new stuff was a mite tough to pull off the assembly line. Wall Steet is just now getting around to trusting them after a brutal one year sell-off/credibility loss and even now it's hardly what you'd call a torrid affair.
Qualcomm is run by full on geeks with pocket protectors and listening to them "handle" the security analysts is almost painful. Irwin Jacobs typical responses cover the gamut from "nope" to "yup" to "maybe" with nary a drop of hyperbole to smooth it over. He knows the tasseled loafer crowd don't understand spread spectrum from bed spreads and he isn't about to take the time to educate them. Hurts for a while maybe, but not when they deliver the goods. Tellabs is an almost identical story.
Sorry for the rant, but I just think PR is at best a short term poof, and at worst can get the company in deep doo. At the end of the day, it's free cash flow which needs absolutely no doctoring to be exciting. Mike Doyle
