Warning: This is something I'm passionate about. (But only partly invested; passionate, not stupid) No, MMDS isn't dead, it's a fine piece of spectrum, 200MHz with 4b/hertz modulation is 800mbps, reusable in segments to an unlimited degree as needed and 2way capability. Of course, overleveraged nonmanaged companies will occasionally fail when incompetents run them into the ground, clueless to the technical and business possibilities. The solution is to organize some capital over the next two months, grab the stock and spectrum cheap and consolidate under serious technical and business leadership & they'll grow by orders of magnitude.
After all remember, it's in-place bandwidth infrastructure, that with shelf upgrades and geometric planning can do anything that any other spectrum can do, much cheaper. I'm speaking from experience having built & sold a little co to do just that. There's nothing except lack of leadership preventing cellularizing several megabits/s into 30-mile regions in major metro areas and capturing the hearts and minds of everyone within. You can't eat more than a few megabit/s per screen; once you get past a single hdtv stream the rest is irrelevent (even though it sounds great, gigabits/s and terabits/s have no value except for backbones). The infrastructure upgrade is wonderfully cheap compared to any alternatives, or horrendously expensive depending how the network is engineered (or not).
Eventually some with capital will figure this out and become a missionary like me and things will change quickly. Any takers? LMK
Maybe sooner that later, once it sinks in how valuable these broadband customers really are and the low cost per capture in this spectrum. I'm parked with WCII after failing to work any major deals w. MMDS, and settled for passive investing, which I hate, but whaddya going to do. These MMDS guys for all their good intentions absolutely insist on shooting themselves (and their investors) in the foot, can't figure out whether to whistle or spit, and need some friendly consolidation and advice.
Sorry for the digression, maybe if I rant like this for a while the word will get out & we'll get some serious players in a totally neglected area. My 2c |
