The vendor is Core Microsystems of San Jose (800-886-2752).

Their ad is on page 18 of the Oct. 96 issue of Computer Graphics World. They didn't break out the cost of each component in the system. Let's assume that the monitor and other components costs $3500. So, the PPro system costs $2500. I called Core Microsystems and they've lowered the price on the Alpha system by $300, so let's assume the Alpha system costs $6200 w/o components.

PPro = $2500/6.7SPECfp = $373/SPECfp
PPro = $2500/8.1SPECint = $309/SPECint

Alpha = $6200/22.1SPECfp = $281/SPECfp
Alpha = $6200/14.3SPECint = $434/SPECint

You get much better integer performance from PPro and much better floating point performance from Alpha.

Core Microsystems told me they sell 90% PPro systems and 10% Alpha systems. They've received a lot of interest in DEC's x86 translator, but it remains to be seen how much additional sales that generates (it was released only a week ago).
