Janice, you are not missing very much, really, by not being able to go to Costco. Is it still true that most Europeans shop daily, and carry their soon-to-be dinner home in reusable bags and baskets? That is the way I would like to live--it sounds so romantic, and the food, especially the produce, is very fresh.
It is not that Costco is not a nice place. It is!! Everywhere you go, someone is preparing little samples of products to nibble on, warehouse workers are considerately beeping their horns to let you know they will mow you down if you do not move out of the way of their monstrous pallet trucks, or whatever they are called, and the savings on almost everything are excellent.
However, it has no soul!!! I feel spiritually empty when I leave the store, and then spend the next hour rearranging all my earthly goods so that I can store enormous quantities of food, and huge cartons of toilet paper, that will take months to consume. I think you might be amused by such a place, briefly, but you would spend years consuming the purchases, and the food would become very monotonous, fast.
I cannot speak for the hams, however. Those seem like an excellent idea. And small appliances are one of the very best bargains. |
