Joe:
I don't think your TA "friend" realizes what is probably going to happen with gold this year or in 1999 (much before 2012!). Gold is not going to stay close to its recent 18 y.o. low (IMHO) because gold is also just about at its all time low (300$ in 1998 dollars an ounce = about $30 in 1930 dollars when gold had a fixed $35 value at that time.... gold is today cheaper than before the great depression!).... I beleive that TA for gold related stocks is valid for very short term moves as international events can move gold up or down very fast.
The "resistance" at 2-2.25$ is there: I agree. But let's face it: a million+ shares at $2 is peanuts... Sorros or Buffet could buy ALTA in a snap (less than 100 Mio $ capitalization for ALTA).
ALTA could move fast if gold makes a real move up. I don't think we need Mutual Funds in ALTA for it to move well. ALTA is a micro cap... not liquid enough for most gold stock funds (IMHO). I am personally now very optimistic about gold, especially after the move over the last 2 days with great increase in volume in most gold stocks.
