Actually many reviews of CPQs LAN products gave them high marks.
It makes perfect sense that Compaq would want to provide a full solution to an enterprise both from the customer's viewpoint and the company providing the package. The IS manager doen't have the hear the BS "It's not our problem it's the other company's problem" and the company providing the solution makes bank. Big companies have to move into other territories to get bigger as both Cisco and Compaq are doing.

I don't think IBM wanted Compaq to move into their territory in 1983 (you want to talk about a formidable force, IBM in 1983 was considered the ultimate untouchable big daddy in computers by most people on wall street) but look what happened.
