GENROCO, a Slinger, Wisconsin-based company, builds and sells ultra-high performance hardware to major computer companies. Sun Microsystems and Digital, among others, use GENROCO's Digital Video Broadcast controllers to service U.S. broadcast stations, which are scrambling to meet the federal mandate to provide a digital signal to households by May 1999. GENROCO also develops hardware that will help bolster interactivity on cable TV systems, such as video on demand. "You'll be able to order, for example, the movie Casablanca any time you want," says GENROCO's Carl Pick. "But say you wanted to know what year it was made, or whether there were any other versions filmed. You'll be able to stop the movie, make an Internet connection on the
TV, and browse for the information. The ability to mix data streams makes this possible. It's the last step toward making your cable system your window to the world."<<<
