it's a good, fast read...
i understand the movie
is a disappointment, but
i can't speak with authority.

a very interesting book i read
some months ago....
was, geoff ryman.

it weaves the real story
of dorothy gael, an orphan who
went in 1875 to live with relatives
near manhattan, kansas, at taht time
still the west....she was abused
by her aunt(em) and uncle (henry) and
had a dog ( toto), her only happiness.

she lives a heartbreaking existence until
she meets a substitute teacher (l.frank baum)
at which point her life is changed, as is baum's
as well.

it weaves also the story of judy garland's sad
young life, and her much sadder later life of
unhappy fame...the odd convergence of the
two lives through an inventive line of characters
gives it a rich texture.....

i liked it alot.
