Flickerful asked ken...."well then, what will it take, finally for sincere and actual rboc support?

Warning: I'm in a ramblin mood.

That is THE real question Flickerful, and it is being addressed by those who grow their businesses building the Internet and will profit from it's growth. Companies like AWRE, MSFT, INTC, CSCO, LU, COMS and many more.

These companies realize they must either wait for the RBOCs or find a way to by-pass them...hence we see the new found interest in cable along with satellite, cellular and any other means to get the connect rates desired, or I should say...required for those uses which are demanded.

The real goal is to get everyone connected at very high connect rates to the fiber backbone via an always on connection. To achieve this it will require time...and of course money...lots of money.

Whether the RBOCs get by-passed completely...only time will tell, however, it is my opinion that just a portion of the Internet traffic by-passing the RBOCs will be enough to have the desired effect. The effect will be equal to the RBOCs being smacked upside the head...thus waking them up to see their monopoly disappearing before their very eyes.

My RBOC, Pac Bell, is on record stating their goal is to run fiber to every single connection. But goals without REALISTIC time frames, budgets, desire and determination are merely dreams. Competition for customers is what will ultimately light the fire under the RBOCs lazy butts. Once they know they must compete for every morsel...they'll find a way to survive...or progress will pass them by.

Another motivator for the RBOCs is the politicians in Washington...they are aware of the importance the 'Net development is to the Country maintaining it's competitive edge.
