Humbly report, William, the patents indeed seem to be SanDisk's backbone: SanDisk has more than 55 U.S. patents granted and numerous other patent applications pending covering its flash data storage products. SanDisk's products are also protected by copyright and trademark protection, as well as extensive trade secrets in the areas of low cost packaging and testing. The company has signed cross-licensing agreements for flash memory related patents with Intel, Sharp, Hitachi, Samsung and Toshiba.
