>>and the United States has more car buyers than Europe, so I am not sure that when you say the U.S. is Volvo's largest market, that is significant for Europeans rejecting them.

Nope. The European market is larger.

I love cars, especially grinmobiles, but my affection has been tempered by my financial training: first avoid depreciating assets.

Hondas depreciate less than most, in fact some Honda models actually appreciate according to a recent article in the WSJ - Honda Coupes are the hottest cars among the young in California and they have set a trend. I own one Honda that has 180,000 miles on it along with the original clutch. Hasn't needed a tune-up in the past 100,000. Just change the oil every 3000.

Two years ago the front disc brakes needed replacement in Helper, Utah. Took it to my destination Moab, bought the parts for $40 and had them installed for another $40. They are warranted for life.

The only part that consistently needs replacement on that car is the exhaust system. I'm on my third replacement. The last two have been replaced gratis, including labor.

The car could use a new timing chain I am told, so I may have that done in Naples where labor is about half what it is in Connecticut. I had the air conditioning rehabilitated there (freon) last year and saved $$$.

All in all an amazing grinmobile.
