Is it still true that most Europeans shop daily, and carry their soon-to-be dinner home in reusable bags and baskets?

Now that most women work, no. Like us, they tend to go to the supermarket at the weekend and buy enough to get on with for most of the week. They generally do buy bread daily (if they have a large enough family to warrant the purchase of a loaf a day) and prefer to get fruit and veggies at the greengrocer's, rather than the supermarket.

Very few people use the traditional string bag anymore. We use plastic ones, just like everybody else.
