Brand "H" is taking orders for the next model of their GEO sat. Notice the number of transponders on this satellite. This could add to global capacity rather quickly.

TELESAT CANADA ORDERS NEW ANIK F1
FROM HUGHES SPACE & COMMUNICATIONS

Telesat Canada has ordered a 15-kilowatt HS 702 model spacecraft called Anik F1 from Hughes Space and Communications International, Inc. (HSCI). The Anik F1 satellite will carry 84 active transponders, 48 Ku-band transponders and 36 in C-band, that will provide general telecommunications services for North and South America, from Telesat's operating slot of 107.3 degrees West longitude. To provide 15 years of service, Anik F will use a xenon ion propulsion system (XIPS) for all on-orbit maneuvering.
