Vertical integration -- chipmaker, software design and boxmaker -- should in principle yield the most tightly integrated and efficient
systems. Unfortunately, in practice I guess that this has contributed to SGI's difficulties, since it makes the company less flexible
in dealing with rapidly changing technologies. I am continuously amazed at how long it is taking SGI to produce a viable NT
machine -- especially a machine based upon somebody else's chip. I would have expected their engineers could have cranked one
out in a few months. Apparently they are creating something radical, but I have no idea what it could be.

I guess we'll see the stock drop a point or two tomorrow. I expect Belluzzo will be extensively quoted with encouraging remarks,
and maybe that will shore things up. I had thought server revenues might have been on the rise. I wonder if this means the
Netscape/SGI server project bombed out?

By the way -- glad to see you're still following the thread. I still remember your post about the worn-out blue-jeans! Sorry about the cross-posting. I was just trying to bring a little class to that silly Yahoo thread. --JD
