appro, and thread et al Many thanks for the link to the article about microscopic storage. Something has occurred to me and I would love to pose a question to the thread and collect ideas from this esteemed assemblage. Seems to me that the diminishing prices of PC's is a natural journey in the revolution/evolution of the so called information age. I think Kuznet's analogy to calculators is right on the money. So, lets say that PC's become ubiquitous. Associated with that, presumably, is some wide spread increase in PC literacy. Whether it is voice recognition or some other interface, many more people will presumably know how to use a PC. Whats next? Does this increase in literacy auger well for other forms of information processing? What sort of convergence scenario is going to happen? Will we compute with hand held personal communicators? Will we ever have to wait in line for a teller again? How about shopping, will we ever really have to go to the mall? (Unless of course, you have a craving for TCBY yogurt). We are already seeing explosions in on-line shopping. What are future trends that bear watching and maybe some investment opportunities? One I have been thinking of is distribution. In the past we have had products distributed to local warehouses from which inventory can be pulled to replenish emptying shelves at retailers. Will the need for a much wider dispersion of delivery points (to everyone's home and office) auger well for UPS? Or is there a company that is ahead in the development of distribution systems and/or delivery vehicles. Is there a technology that replaces bar code readers as a faster and better way to track a package? How does all this match with the aging of the U.S. and Japanese population? Remote medicine? What stocks? How about machine verification of signatures? Will government, financial and legal institutions come to accept remote signature entry through some new technology in this area? In fact, what about security in general? What companies lead the pack in online security? Is this to far off topic? Ideas????? Best, Stitch
