I could not possibly comment on who
is NETA's most trusted engineer. But
the typical severance agreement keeps
cash flowing into (er, out of) the quarter
following the layoff. So if there are
layoffs, they are not done in the last
two weeks of the quarter to solely to
affect reported corporate results.

If you want to look for quarter-massaging
financial engineering, look at the costs
rolled into 'one-time-charges' and
attributed to mergers and acquisitions.
