This is not a decompression chip in as the Cube and zoran parts but the channel controller. I am not sure how much the other get into the channel electronics. All I know right now the it takes a number of parts to do a DVD drive and this does it it in one. This should drive the cost of the driver down to under $100 by years end. With intel's strategy of doing the decompression in software MMX then the hardware decompression in drives goes away. Just remember CIRRUS has the channel part for the new 200 mb floppy driver shipping next quarter from a number of manufacturers. We longs hope this is the next gen floppy standard and right now it is looking like it has and excellent shot at it.
