That's exactly what I mean. I agree with you about Dole--in the 70's he got all caught up in the "Nixon admiration society" and it almost cost Dole his political career. I think now (I may be wrong) he is less concerned with his own self-interests. Let's face it, he and Elizabeth are independently wealthy, and he only has one daughter, who appears to be relatively uninterested in power or her political future, so I don't think you have to worry about Dole trying to pull off side deals to set her up (hmmm...Chelsea will be out of high school soon, perhaps Billary will be setting her up in some cushy deals...). So I have to believe at his age and situation that he wants The BigJob to make a difference. But it appears that what Dole will do is a moot point--I am the ultimate optimist, yet I even see the writing on the wall.

Speaking of presidential offspring, I live in New Orleans, where Amy Carter now lives. A few weeks ago, I was driving down Magazine Street and saw Amy waiting at an RTA bus stop. Imagine that--your dad was president 16 years ago, and now you're taking public transportation. The story doesn't really have any significance, but I thought it was funny and ironic, nonetheless.
