NEWS:Ciprico Announces RaidiaNT Disk Array Solution for Windows NT Workstations
MINNEAPOLIS, March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Ciprico Inc. (Nasdaq: CPCI - news) today announced the release of a comprehensive Fibre Channel disk array solution for Windows NT systems. The RaidiaNT disk array solution is based on the proven Fibre Channel performance of Ciprico's 7000 series RAID disk arrays -- the industry's first RAID solution with a full speed Fibre Channel interface providing speeds nearly 100 MB/sec. The 7000 series has already been certified by Microsoft's own Windows Hardware Quality Lab (HQL).
The RaidiaNT is targeted at high-bandwidth visual computing markets such as entertainment, satellite/telemetry, geosciences, digital prepress and medial imaging. These markets are increasingly turning to NT as a cost-effective alternative to higher end computer systems. The RaidiaNT will provide users with a Fibre Channel disk array solution that can grow as their storage or networking requirements increase. The RaidiaNT supports Fibre Channel Point-to-point, Arbitrated Loop and Fabric switching topologies that will allow Windows NT users to plan for a future of a more ''networked solutions'' approach for their applications.
The RaidiaNT packages all necessary components to take advantage of the performance capabilities of full speed Fibre Channel. RaidiaNT includes Ciprico's 7000 series Fibre Channel RAID disk array, a graphical user interface (GUI) utility package and a PCI to Fibre Channel host bus adapter. The 7000 Series includes hot-swap drives, power supplies and fans. A variety of capacities are available. The GUI provides a much easier method for disk array installation and monitoring its performance once its up and running. The GUI allows the user to check array status, perform array surface analysis, disable/rebuild drives, and complete general system administration tasks. The RaidiaNT's host bus adapter has been thoroughly tested with the 7000 series and it guarantees leading-edge performance power for visual computing applications.
''By combining the best Fibre Channel disk array in the market with specialized Windows NT GUI utilities and a high-performance PCI to Fibre Channel adapter, we are able to deliver unprecedented levels of high-bandwidth performance to Windows NT users'', said Robert H. Kill, President and CEO. ''RaidiaNT is cost effective -- the most technologically advanced storage solution for Windows NT 4.0 and beyond.''
Ciprico's RaidiaNT disk array will be available in the second quarter of 1998.
