Incorporated (NASDAQ:INSV) today announced major research advances
which may have a direct benefit to InSite's development of genetically based diagnostic tests for glaucoma.
Two to four million Americans are diagnosed with glaucoma, the second leading cause of blindness in this country. Current diagnostic techniques are limited. As a result, many patients have already lost more than 50% of their optic nerve fibers by the time glaucoma is diagnosed. Early prognosis of glaucoma using InSite's genetic technology should provide earlier diagnosis and better patient outcomes.
InSite is an ophthalmic product development company with programs based on three platforms: genetic research for the diagnosis and prognosis of glaucoma; the development of new and improved ophthalmic drugs using the proprietary DuraSite(R) eyedrop-based delivery system; and the non-surgical delivery of drugs to the back of the eye.
