Your info on CPQ exec compensation may be out of date, my understanding is that 1/3 to 1/2 of senior exec compensation at CPQ is directly tied to corporate performance, primarily ROIC. This is probably a better scheme than tying to stock price since the company's real performance needs to improve to improve ROIC. I think they also recently included a component related to customer satisfaction - so if ROIC and customer sat don't improve, bonus gets cut. Of course, improving ROIC ought to drive stock price up so this is also a good scheme for shareholders. Now if that was only reflected in the actual stock price...
