Semi Investments

For the 1Q of 97 I invested in a few companies, and plan to be out of them shortly, so I've been looking for other investment vehicles for the rest of 97. Last week I came upon an up coming IPO, which maybe interesting to some who follow this thread.

Broadcom a home run IPO guru Francis Gaskins of the
Gaskins IPO Review thinks that Broadcom is one of these
diamonds in the rough. Although semiconductor chips are
not nearly as attractive to the mainstream tech IPO investor
as web advertising or internet security, Mr. Gaskins thinks
Broadcom is "one of the hottest real companies to hit the
IPO scene this year. It's got sales, profits, and a great
future."

Broadcom's chips are used in broadband data and video
transmission products, as well as in systems for Ethernet
networking, digital broadcast satellite, and digital
subscriber line markets. Its customers include Northern
Telecom, Motorola, and Cisco; Cisco is now exercising
its right to purchase 500,000 shares on the offering. Mr.
Gaskins notes that "product sales at Broadcom doubled
from the June quarter to the September quarter, and then
again to the December quarter, with significant new
products planned for a 1998 rollout." Look for
Broadcom to price sometime in May or June.
