I don't know the numbers for engineers. The hint I got was it was spring cleaning time and my friend was part of the "Spring Cleaning." She was an engineer, but not in the engineering dept. She was in MIS.

She was a McAfee employee. I've worked closely with her and her husband. They both are excellent engineers and friends.

So please do not panic about this. It was part of spring cleaning and part of managing cost is to find areas where people are "not as effective" anymore. Also, because of the Network General merger, her position may have been a duplicate. There is also the seniority issue too. If an engineer has been at McAfee for a long enough period, they probably expect a significant raise (and increase in stock options too.) Since management wants to cut cost, it's common that the more senior engineers get let go. They probably figure we could hire two junior engineer for half the salary (and little or no stock options.)
