jtechkid,

Another piece of news. This article was about increased PC spending expected by small businesses this year.

techweb.com

However, buried in the article:

>>>>
The survey showed that large corporations expect average spending for desktops to drop to $3.85 million this year from $4.68 million in 1997. Average notebook spending will dip slightly to $1.14 million from $1.17 million.

However, average large-company spending on servers is expected to grow slightly to $1.78 million from $1.73 million.

This is a 10% drop-off in large corporation PC spending 1997 to 1998 for the companies queried. This is on top of reduced margins for the PC manufacturers.
