"a 200mph engine"
I was present when a friend built one for his motorcycle. I believe it hit its mark. Shame the rest of the bike just sat there... :-)
I like Star Trek. The science makes me wince, but decent venues for pop sci-fi are soooo few and far between. My fav' right now (ahead of Deep Sex Nine and Voyagina) is Babylon Five. They retained Harlan Ellison as a "conceptual consultant". He kept some of the concepts under control. Like the Earth battleships are believable. Reaction motors, beam weapons, no shields except armor. And (yaaayy!) the most amazing thing. The thrust axis and the "up" axis coincide. Not since Kubrick has that basic fact of space travel shown in a Hollywood design.
Unfortunately, the asskicking Minbari battlecruisers look and handle like those overbred Chinese goldfish.
