Company To Use DTV Prototype to Display First Live, Non-Experimental DTV Broadcast of a Professional Sporting Event
Toshiba America Consumer Products Inc. (TACP) will be demonstrating a prototype digital television (DTV) set tomorrow on Capitol Hill in the Rayburn Building. Thanks to Toshiba's prototype DTV set, senators, congressmen and other government officials will have the opportunity to see the first live, non-experimental DTV broadcast of a professional sporting event. The broadcast, provided by Arlington-based LIN Television and the Texas Rangers, will feature the Rangers' Opening Day game against the Chicago White Sox from The Ballpark in Arlington, Texas, at 2:30 pm ET.
"It is a great honor for Toshiba to demonstrate the superior picture quality of DTV to the Washington, D.C. community," noted TACP President Toshihide Yasui. "Today's demonstration represents the crowning achievement of an extensive Toshiba research and development effort in digital home entertainment technologies that has been laying the foundation for DTV for many years. This ambitious and unparalleled effort has, in fact, already yielded a wide variety of technological breakthroughs that are incorporated in our current product line."
