Oh, so now it's a 200 mpg engine...? Switcheroonies! I don't think a 200mpg engine is realizable for any two-ton vehicle, unless the motive element included a sail. Your average gasoline engine has a Carnot (max possible value) efficiency of 20-25%. And a really dedicated two-ton car might get 20 mpg in the city. (And we all do city driving here in the Bay Area.) The only way to get significant improvements in that efficiency is to go away from combustion. A gasoline-powered fuel cell electric car is a neat idea - efficient, convenient and clean. Beats lugging around a ton of lead-acid.
