On the CD-ROM controller front, OAKT has had a commanding market share. However, Cirrus announced an Ultra-DMA part in June (OAKT just recently) and secured design wins from two top-5 CD-ROM manufacturers (quoted from SEC notes, conf call), including Acer/A-Open. OAKT has had trouble maintaining market share, also because of Asian competitors (UMC? Sanyo?), resulting in massive price declines for CD-ROM controllers. OAKT is leading in fully integrated CD-ROM silicon though (24x product announced this year with integrated servo/DSP). I don't think Cirrus is getting serious gains from optical storage yet, but this DVD product is very promising. I noticed a 4.5x DVD speed -- is this enough for Christmas?
