Re: Motley Fool on Apple:

I don't see anything compelling in their argument. Sure, Jobs is able to hedge his bets and that doesn't send a terribly positive message to the markets. On the other hand, the guy is working long hours and taking a lot of heat trying to turn around a company in which he currently owns one share. He's not exactly raping the shareholders.

Furthermore, all the Fool really can say about Apple at the moment is that it hasn't yet executed a dramatic turnaround. Is that so shocking? Does anybody really believe that having somebody in there as permanent CEO could have caused the company to turn around any faster than it already has?

The relevant question is this: How much does Wall Street care that there is no permanent CEO in sight? Judging by the stock's performance today, not a whole lot. In fact, it would seem that both the Fool and conventional wisdom are wrong; the recent rise in Apple stock price was apparently *not* due to rumors that Jobs was going to have to...uh...doodie or get off the pot. If that had been the true cause of the price rise, then Apple would have given back its gains this afternoon.
