Jeff you were right to gently chastise me about my comment about the analysis of this market. If I could rephrase myself there I would say: I am concerned with the percentage of people involved in this industry who do not have even a passable understanding of the underlying technologies that drive it and implications these technologies have on long term market behavior. At any given time over the last ten years the majority of the analysts on wall street could be found predicting the imminent demise of Apple. Apple is still there and its percentage of market has slowly but steadily grown. Anyone who has looked closely at the situation can easily understand Apple's persistence, but if you start discounting real performance and technology issues Apple's survival becomes something of an enigma. Clearly, the marketing and financial power of the IBMs, Intels, and Microsofts does have a profound impact on the industry, and take over rumors true or false have always provided opportunities for a quick profit, but there is another dimension to this market: the Product. Apple has survived because of the quality of its product. It hasn't overtaken the market because of those with a cynical disregard for the issues of quality, technology and the end product these things produce and a general market too uninformed to understand these issues.
