Challo - From what I have read, K6 is slightly faster than Pentium 'basic', slightly slower than PII. The 100mhz bus will allow the very high end chips to really fly, it will be announced in mid April along with Intel's new top of the line 350mhz and 400mhz PII chips. Intel's roadmap states that they will ship a 450mhz chip this year, next year the anty might go up substantially, as Intel demonstrated a 700mhz chip recently. They have a new series of chips codenamed 'Katmai' that will ship next year with extended MMX instructions (MMX2). As for what to buy, several folks have made sensible comments. It really boils down to what you are going to run and how much you want to spend. In addition, if you are going to add peripherals to your PC in the future, low end models are generally NOT as upgradeable as the high end. Right now, with 56k modems the limit for most, if you are going to run Microsoft Office and surf the net, a low end PC is fine. However, with DVD ramping and applications like Microsoft's 'chrome' on the horizon, along with ADSL and cable modems, I would be tempted to spend 2 grand to get at least a 300mhz system. If you really want something that may last awhile, wait till June, get WIN98 (hardware support for USB/DVD/multiple montitors/etc) along with a 100mhz bus system.

Good luck,
John
