Although I have never researched Australian stocks per se. I am very intrigued, specially with the possibility of finding good undervalued mining & oil stocks.

Some people argue that Aus mining shares are undervalued. Personally I keep well clear of that market sector and only have indirect holding through Australian unit trusts (mutual funds).

I have direct holdings in: Colonial (insurance/banking), AAPT (telecom), Telstra (telecom), and Ten Network (TV) which is just listing next week. I haven't been investing here for very long all of these were IPOs which so far have done spectacularly well.

BHP the biggest Aus mining/metal processing conglomerate is an ongoing disaster. Other large mining companies don't seem to do well. The small ones are difficult to research.

Here is a report on Santos:

pont.com.au

It doesn't seem too bad a company.
