leo..I was the mgr of I/s at compaq for almost ten yrs. I left in 1993. As the mgr of systems I was in on all the planning needed to run cpq. cpq plays things out like a chess match. just go back through and read my posts to learn many of their tricks.
I deployed many of their hightech solutions to problems.
I've worked with lans and distributed systems before they were even called that.
I'm a driector of info. tech now for company in austin. I'm still in the supplier chain for memory and compaq.
From the inside you get a dif picture.
Since cpq didn't release caution at 3q then their isn't any. now that they report 1.25 which was way over then they have reserved off allot of money to lower prices to rock bottom and still make the 1.45 for 4q. ..maybe they release caution in jan.97... it will take a crash to stop cpq now.... but it will eventually go south.. a market crash could drop cpq to 35... I wouldn't put cpq yet. do 1/3 at 75-76. then hope it goes to mid 80's to put. Do this if you are agressive putter.
the best play is to ewait for 80+ to put at all.
As far as I concerned the putters have missed this one big time even if it pays off. too much of a gamble to put at 55. just becasue you make profit doesn't make it the right thing to do. I know i'll get comments on this but I beleive in safer strategy on cpq.
Since I'm in the supplier chain and deploying the strategy that is making cpq rich ...I keep giving a view that the professionals
don't predict.

Joe may be an exception to this..
MB is the pro though...just becasue he missed cpq doesn't make
him unsucesful at this.
joe and mb diversify...I stay with what I know is going to work.
I'll put cpq but I'll do it at 80+. If I miss , I have yrs of history that says I get another chance to put again in a few yrs.
Hope this helps.
The only thing that can really kill the puts is if this is another 93-94....cpq went up and kept going til it 3-1 split. If this happens then the puts are no good... market correction could keep this from happening.
