Though I don't know their business plan, it's my understanding that MFNX is constructing more local fiber networks/SONET rings. They do have the leg that runs to Chicago, but I think their plan is different from Qwest's.

I was thinking about the pending QWST-LCI merger and came up with a question. Will the combination of LCI's circuit switched networks with QWST's IP based network allow them to provide 1+ IP-based telephony? I think that it's inherently more difficult to market LD which requires the user to dial a ten digit access code, even though it may be significantly cheaper. Obviously QWST will put some of LCI's existing traffic on the IP backbone. But will they change the IP-based product to 1+ dialing? Anyone know the answer or care to speculate? This could be a key differentiator versus other IP telephony candidates out there.
