The boats seem to me to be a value play. Though I suspect they've been oversold like everything else and will probably turn out well, I'm personally more cautious about them. If the boat business turns out strong, they are so cheap that they may outperform most of the drilling and oil service companies. But I feel more comfortable playing it through ESV, which I think has been tarnished with some guilt by association even though marine transport is a very small part of their operation. I think it gives the stock some of the boat company "doggy-look" while the fundamentals for the company (probably including its boat division) remain extremely strong. I like investing in companies with cosmetic problems that make them look bad even when the basic situation is very positive.
good luck however you choose to play it,
Baird
