I am not sure what percentage will be subcribing to a wideband wireless
network of some type by the year 2000, but I believe that we are ready to
start heading up a growth curve that is propelled by the falling cost of
bandwidth. Metricom is a good example of a company that with only
28 KBS, offered at a rate of under $30 a month for unlimited internet
access, is growing like crazy. Can you imagine being able to speak
on your cell phone for $30 a month of unlimited service. With CU SEE ME
software that is almost what you are getting from Metricom. Imagine 6 MBS
of wireless. It would put all the power of internet at your finger tips
with a little portable communicator/computer. You could travel to the beach
or mountain bike into the hills and while taking a break sit down and
ream through databases and spreadsheets, sort compile, send video memos or whatever
while video conferencing with people around the world. I think the key to the
demand for this product will be the ability to incorporate tons of video
and digital images into work related software. Like Microsoft Word
has a picture of a pen show up when you start the program that gives you
a nice warm fuzzy feeling compared to having only text show up. I think
these programs will come alive with sharp bright colorful images, instead of little
two dimensionalsymbols that at one time were a great improvement over text only programs.

In my mind this frees people to work anywhere at any time with more computing power
than people use to have going into a major think tank with a mainframe computer.
I think it is a quantum leap beyond that.

Inefficiencies in the world economy will be greatly reduced
as low cost bandwidth opens the rapid flow of easy to digest information.
Apple use to run a commercial that the most powerful computer in the office
was the one people liked to use and they showed the MacIntosh. As playing
with information continues to become more entertaining people will enjoy working
more and get more done.

The bottom line for what I am trying to say above, is that Wireless Wideband will
have a great future in itself, which will be good for LSI, but also it
along with the internet and computers, will drive the economy to new levels and
create demand for electronic goods accross the board as the world economy grows.
