Apple has been handing out Strata's VideoShop product with AV Macs for a while (at least that's what's come with mine - I can't remember if my lab's G3s came with it or not). In my opinion, the interface for VideoShop rivals Kai's Power Snot et al. for awkward, unsightly unusability, but it's actually a very effective piece of software otherwise, especially at capturing video through Apple's cards (Apple Video Player can't capture half as fast).
Has anyone gleaned whether or not this All-in-one item is actually restricted to the education market, or whether they are just spinning the PR that way? And if it's the former, why does Apple do this (a la eMate, the original 5x00 series, a few others)... I don't understand why they often restrict the availability of their cheapest stuff and their best industrial design to the educational sales. Do they get higher profit margins there, because of the fact that it is nearly direct sales when they go through campus resellers and K12 purchasing?
Just curious,
