Digital Biometrics Announces Reseller Agreement With Data General
MINNETONKA, Minn., March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Biometrics, Inc. (Nasdaq: DBII), a Minnesota-based provider of identification products and integration services, announced today that its Integrated Identification Solutions Division (IIS) has been selected by Data General Corporation (NYSE: DGN) as a business ally for Data General's enterprise Windows NT and UNIX based AViiON server line. IIS is the systems integration business unit of Digital Biometrics.
The Data General relationship expands the ability of IIS to offer total solutions, including servers, to mission-critical application problems.
James C. Granger, President and CEO of Digital Biometrics, said, "We are pleased that Data General has recognized the strength of our emerging systems integration business. Data General is a market leader in delivering high-end server solutions for the complex problems on which our IIS Division is focused."
Granger continued, "We are particularly pleased to have an alliance with a company whose top vertical market, health care, is a special target for early penetration by IIS. We look forward to a strong and successful relationship."
"As Healthcare adopts increasingly sophisticated IT solutions, confidentiality and security are of paramount importance. We are pleased to be associated with a company that provides solutions which enable the movement of information to care providers," said Bob Iacono, General Manager, US Sales Healthcare Division.
Denny Wendell, General Manager of DBI's IIS Division, noted, "This new relationship is a particularly good fit in that both organizations offer the robust platforms required for enterprise solutions, and the high-quality name we want to provide to our customers. The Data General AViiON(R) and CLARiiON(R) products support our need for a multi-platform (Windows NT and UNIX) environment. These products are an excellent choice for our customers who require high availability, high reliability and scalability."
The AViiON family that IIS will be offering includes the powerful AV 8600 enterprise server, which has up to eight 200 MHz Pentium Pro processors; the six-processor AV 6600 server, and the AV 3650 dual- and quad-processor departmental server.
IIS also will distribute Data General's unique NT Cluster-in-a-Box(R) solution, which comes pre-tested and pre-configured in a single rackmounted system that users can simply plug in and turn on. Cluster-in-a-Box, which will support both Microsoft Cluster Server and FirstWatch for NT failover software from Veritas Software Corporation, includes up to 16 200 MHz Pentium Pro processors (with two AV 8600 systems) and the company's RAID technology based CLARiiON storage system.
Tony DiBona, Vice President, U.S. Sales, Data General, believes, "With our award winning Intel-based enterprise NT AViiON servers providing the best high availability solutions, Data General's offerings are a perfect fit for IIS. This combined total solution offers Data General the opportunity to participate with IIS in the commercial markets for identification and security applications which IIS targets. We are excited about the customers we can serve together."
