Srini - Re: "Any comments on this? (from a technical point of view) "Ashok Kumar, an analyst at Piper Jaffray Inc, pointed out that AMD's yield improvements are still in test lots, and also said he doubts that IBM is investing in AMD".
My impression is that Ashok Kumar has more first hand knowledge of AMD's business than any of the analysts. He was the first to state that AMD had won a Compaq and IBM design win for their K6, the upcoming 266 MHz K6 "shipments", and he early on stated how low AMD's yields were, etc.
So, my take is that Kumar's comments indicate just that - AMD has only temporary and miniscule knowledge about their overall yield improvement.
The rest appears to be hype - Volpe, Brown, Prudential, B of A/R.S. - we call this "piling on" in football.
Another damning piece of data was Hans Mosesmann's (Prudential) comment that AMD was producing only 300,000 K6's per month this quarter - which computes to only 900,000 to 1,000,000 K6's for the ENTIRE QUARTER - DOWN from last quarter's 1.5 million. See a post by Kovalyov on the AMD thread for the entire text of Mosesmann's analysis - and my reaction.
Remember - AMD is trying to raise money by selling NEW stock. THEY DESPERATELY need that stock price UP to unload that stock - to get money to keep the operation going.
SO -- BUYERS BEWARE!
