Irby/Steve:

Before placing a SOES order to go short, you must have an uptick (i.e. the last change in the bid must have been up) and your broker must have borrowable stock in that security.

Now the question... What if I wanted to short a stock with a limit order at the inside ask? ==> Would I still be required to have an uptick? I assume this is not required, since otherwise the stock could uptick or downtick on the bid while I remain on the inside ask possibly causing me to short on a downtick.

Your explanation / guidance is appreciated.

Thanks!
-Eric
