ZAP WINS ENVIRONMENTAL BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AWARD
SEBASTOPOL, CA (March 31, 1998) ZAP Power Systems (OTC BB:ZAPP-news) of Sebastopol, California was selected as the Environmental Business of the Year by The Sonoma County Conservation Council.
ZAP, which stands for Zero Air Pollution, manufactures electric bicycles and scooters. Studies have shown that because ZAP electric vehicles are human-hybrids, they can reduce emissions by up to 99% over gas vehicles. These days with all the talk about cutting carbon dioxide emissions, it is important to note that for every mile that one avoids driving a gas car, one can prevent approximately one pound of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
ZAP's patented electric bikes have also been honored as one of the few inventions that have made a positive impact on society. ZAP has sold over 9,000 ZAPS to over 60 foreign countries and, with its new outlet in Shanghai, will start attacking pollution made by conventional gas powered bikes and mopeds.
ZAP not only manufactures electric vehicles but makes environmental practices a vital part of their every day business practice. ZAP's paper and packaging products are recycled materials and the packaging material is made of biodegradable foam starch. ZAP's batteries are maintenance-free and over 95% of all materials used in the battery is recyclable. It was noticed that ZAP is not just a company with an environmental policy, but it is truly an environmental company.
Recognizing the environmental benefits and growth potential of the electric bicycle industry, electric power company Central and South West Corporation (NYSE:CSR-news) recently announced that they had agreed to distribute ZAP vehicles throughout their territory.
"Today's investors are not only looking for tomorrow's Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT-news), they are looking for a business that is making sustainable products. ZAP is a company with a strategy that makes sense for today and tomorrow's transportation needs," said Bill Watson, executive vice president of Centennial Capital Management.
