I have taken a position in this company. I am also having one of their integrator-partners come out and sell me the telephony product. We are presently phoning thru a switch in the basement of our complex. Leasing handsets, and only one captive LD supplier, at $.14 per minute. And, paying for lots of ancillary services, such as voicemail. Not economic (for us). We will see.
There does not seem to be overlap between the telephony and computer network software distribution channels. Cross-selling is not natural for these two groups.
Lots of things can go wrong (and clearly did, as apparent from reading a DJNR search back to 1992). BUT, that was then, and this is now. Netting out the small debt against the cash, I am paying very little for the business and the Lantastic channel. The value of the channel is in its possible use for distribution of telephony products. I think that can be trained and incented in. CTI in Boston has its own channels already.
Incidentally, CTI controls issuance of telephony press releases. I think it is smart to leave the phone guys relatively alone to operate their end of the business----let the cultures mix to the degree they will, which will naturally increase over time.
I know there is a lot of risk here, but some of it has already been absorbed by others, before I got here, and maybe all the rest is reflected in the stock price. Looks good to me.
