If everyone believes that Medicaid, and the taxpayers generally, should pay for nursing home care, why not just deluge our legislators with this request. I have never encountered anyone offended by the notion that an older person with savings is entitled to hide/gift away/spend all remaining assets rather than pay for the nursing care they eventually need. If fact, most people feel strongly that the government should pay for this in order to protect inheritances. Why, the, can't this just be the law, and we put an end to criminalizing older folks and their hard-working children?
